MXenergy Tells Public Service
Commission They Are “Wasting Time”
Stamford, CT, September 20, 2005 – MXenergy CEO Jeffrey
Mayer told members of the Maryland Public Service Commission
yesterday that they've missed the point when it comes
to helping homeowners and small businesses cope with
out-of-control natural gas bills this coming winter.
In fact, he told the panel that they were "wasting their
time" discussing what the winter outlook might be. "The
energy crisis is here," said Mr. Mayer. "It's time to
put some policies in place that will help consumers
deal with what's already happening," he added, referring
to dramatic price shocks in natural gas that are impacting
nearly every home and business.
Mr. Mayer appeared before the Commission to urge them
to take immediate steps to remove utility operating
barriers that prevent competitive suppliers like MXenergy
from being more active in the State. He encouraged the
Commission to look to other Northeast and mid-west states
for ways to open up the markets. "Millions of customers
in other states have been able to protect themselves
from higher prices, but Maryland consumers have been
deprived of this opportunity because of an archaic wall
of regulation." he said. "It's time to tear down the
wall," he said.
MXenergy is an authorized supplier of natural gas and
electricity to over 300,000 residential and small commercial
customers in 11 states and the province of Ontario.
MXenergy provides residential and small commercial customers
the opportunity to lock-in energy prices, a service
previously only available to large industrial and commercial
businesses. Additional information regarding the company
