MXenergy Serves Nicor Accounts in Indiana, Ohio

Stamford, CT, January 30, 2003 – MxEnergy Inc., an independent energy marketer based in Stamford, CT, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Nicor Energy under which MXenergy will assume gas supply contracts for over 7,000 customers of Nicor in Indiana and Ohio. The agreement becomes effective on February 1, 2003.

"Customers will see no change in either service or price,” said Jeffrey Mayer, MXenergy’s president and CEO.  “MXenergy will honor all contract terms.”

Nicor Energy, an affiliate of the Northern Illinois utility, plans to notify customers by mail immediately of the change.  MXenergy will also send customers a letter welcoming them.

According to Bob Blake, Vice President of MXenergy Customer Care Division, most of the formerly Nicor customers have fixed price contracts that protect them from higher monthly energy prices.  “In this record-breaking winter, both MXenergy’s fixed price and Nicor’s fixed price has saved many customers from the shock of skyrocketing energy prices.”

For those customers that have variable prices, Mr. Blake said that MXenergy will soon offer a fixed price contract offer.  “We will probably wait until March or April when the market settles down to offer customers a two or three year fixed price contract.”  There will be no cost to customers to switch from variable pricing to fixed pricing, he said.

The transaction has been approved by Northern Indiana Public Service and Dominion East Ohio Gas Company, the local utilities in Ohio and Kentucky that will continue to read customer meters, send bills, and provide emergency service.  It has also been reviewed and approved by the Public Utility Commission of Ohio.

“We continue to abide by our motto:  We keep our costs down and pass the savings on to you,” Mr. Mayer said.  “I am confident that Nicor customers will be pleased with the superior level of service that we deliver to close to 200,000 customers in seven states.”
