MXenergy Launches Consumers Energy
Program in Michigan
Stamford, CT, January 22, 2002 – MxEnergy Inc. announced today that it has begun to offer its Guaranteed Fixed Price Program to customers of Consumers Energy Company in Michigan.
MXenergy is an independent supplier of natural gas to over 75,000 customers in seven utility territories in five states. Consumers Energy is one of the largest utilities in the State of Michigan, serving over 1.5 million customers with gas and electric service.
Under the MXenergy program, Consumers will continue to supply customers with gas as well as read their meters and send their bills. MXenergy will supply the gas itself at a fixed price for one year.
“Customers who choose our Guaranteed Fixed Price Program will be protected from any price increases over the next year,” said Jeffrey Mayer, president of MXenergy. “Even if prices go back to the $10 level of last winter, our customers will continue to receive gas at a price of $3.4997 per thousand cubic feet,” he added.
Mr. Mayer said that MXenergy has purchased supplies for one year starting April 2002. “We have even purchased gas for storage throughout the summer, to make sure we have the supplies in Michigan during the winter,” he explained.
Customers of MXenergy who do not wish to lock in a fixed price may agree to pay a variable price based on then current market conditions. Customers who choose the variable price enjoy what the company calls the “You Choose When” Option which enables them to call MXenergy and fix their price at any time.
MXenergy has a customer service center in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, where live customer service representatives work with customers to help them understand their bills and their supply options. According to Greg Taffet, MXenergy’s Chief Information Officer, “Customers can obtain the very latest price information by calling our Maryland office or by logging on to our web site, www.mxenergy.com.”
“Over the past years, gas prices have been moving like a yo-yo,” Mr. Mayer said, “When prices soar, like they did last winter, customers feel it in their monthly budgets. |
