How would someone describe exactly what is meant
when someone is speaking of green energy? Basically, it is an alternative way to
power the things that are needed today without encroaching on the next
generation’s ability to have a viable environment to live in.
Green energy is usually spoken of in the same
context as sustainable sources. In fact, they are basically synonymous.
Renewable sources of fuel are things that are plentiful and abundant such as
natural gas, wind, solar power, bio mass, and water. These things will always be
there. They do not become exhausted like other types of fuels such as oil or
coal. In most cases, they do not emit any or very little toxic gases that are
harmful to the atmosphere and the environment of the planet. This makes them
excellent alternative sources of fuel for everything from automobiles to
electricity generation.
Green energy is another way to stress
environmental friendliness. It replaces things like nuclear power. Nuclear power
produces waste that must be disposed of in special ways and, should it leak out
into the atmosphere or soil, it is extremely dangerous. This is the type of
thing that green energy and its supporters are looking to eliminate.
By becoming more reliant on alternative renewable
fuel sources, the country and the world can cut down the dependence that it has
formed to oil and its products. In the United States, this would mean being more
self-sufficient as opposed to relying on foreign oil to the point that the
country would be crippled without it.
At a time in history when there is so much
emphasis put on the detrimental side effects that the world is witnessing taking
place on glaciers and oceans as well as the ozone layer, green energy is looked
to as a way to save the world from the industrialization that civilization has
quickly adapted to. A bigger population leads to more vehicles and more vehicles
lead to more emissions with gasoline powered cars. Industries continue to add to
the emissions that are depleting the ozone. The savior is going to be the
alternatives that can be found to be viable and have an infrastructure for them
built.
The good news is that, with this new awareness
and the need for alternative fuel sources, many things are on the horizon that
will help make these great ideas plans that are coming to fruition sooner than
most would think. Geothermal is another type of power that is being developed.
This can be done even in areas where there is no heat that is coming from the
earth through production wells. New technology is allowing for the geothermal
power to be harnessed by pressuring cold water into rock that would otherwise
not be permeable. This is another breakthrough that, in time, could lead to yet
another renewable resource that would able to be used in place of some of the
other types of power that are in use today that pollute the earth, water, and
atmosphere.
